Pork from pigs that explore!!

Based on the outskirts of Truro, Poppyfields Fine Produce is run by Stephen and Aimee Edmond with the help of three key members of staff: Farm Manager Henry, Nine, Florence, Seven, and Freddie, Four.

Stephen is the second-generation to live and work on the farm, having recently taken over from his father and has lived on the farm for over 40 years!!

Back in 2017, a quick trip to a local suppliers open day (featuring some very pretty piglets), resulted in Aimee and Stephen embarking on a new adventure, and Poppyfields was born.

The family farm is now home to over 70 Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, reared outdoors with lots of room to explore.

At Poppyfields, we believe the present should support the future: we want to leave the land in great shape for future generations.

Our traditional pigs are bred and reared in a natural field environment doing all the things that pigs do (including escaping!) and we incorporate other farm enterprises, resulting in crops benefiting from pigs, and pigs benefiting from crops.

The Oxford Sandy and Black Pig breed - also known as the Plum Pudding pig, has had a challenging history; at one stage, numbers were very low across the whole country.

Through lots of care and hard work the breed was saved from becoming extinct and the numbers now continue to grow year-on-year. Our cyclical natural grazing system, combined with huge efforts to ensure the Poppyfields breeding stock is spread around the country, help to minimise the risk of numbers dropping again.

Fun fact!

There are no poppy fields at Poppyfields! Our pedigree herd had to have a name, and our decision making coincided with armistice day.
